The fear of enclosed spaces
The fear of being in an enclosed space is a common fear that usually has its roots with an earlier life experience. Hypnotherapy helps to release the stuck emotional energy left over from that earlier event or events and then enables you to create new, more empowering beliefs and attitudes. This creates a confidence in your ability to manage your emotions, which in turn can be sufficient to eliminate the fear of having a panic attack (one of the main sources of flying anxiety).
The fear of having a panic attack
When someone has had the experience of some kind of anxious response to flying, the fear of it happening again (and of it being worse) builds up an acute feeling of anxiety. Not only can hypnosis and hypnotherapy help to eradicate other associated fears, but also develop your confidence in your ability to handle whatever emotions you happen to feel. That confidence then allows you to be more assured within yourself and so consequently you are more likely to have a pleasant and enjoyable flight.
Some practical tips before and during the flight
Aside from the changes that hypnotherapy can help to bring about, there are also a number of things which you can do to lower stress levels and help you have a more enjoyable flight.
- Avoid stimulants, like cigarettes or coffee.
- Drink plenty of water before and during the flight.
- Eliminate the potential stress of being late by allowing plenty of time for getting to the airport.
- Write yourself a checklist of everything you need to have with you, rather than just having a list in your mind.
- Take something relaxing to do before and during the flight (a book or a CD).
- If you feel nervous, don’t beat yourself up about it! Anyone can feel a little anxious when they are doing something out of the ordinary. Being critical of yourself will only exacerbate things. Be light about it and anxiety will be easier to shrug off.
How many sessions are necessary?
Two or three sessions are usually sufficient. This enables you to create a much more relaxed and confident mindset around flying, and also addresses the key underlying issues that are creating the problem. |
